Day organized by Patrick Bonin, Gaëtan Thiebaut and Aurélia Bugaiska
Darwin [1809-1882] announced in 1859 in The Origin of Species that psychology would be established on a new footing when it took evolution into account. Darwin’s prophetic announcement has now been fulfilled by evolutionary psychology-or evolutionary psychology, or Darwinian psychology-which is now a mature and growing scientific discipline. This study day, entitled “Cognition through the prism of evolution”, will be devoted to the presentation of recent scientific work in this field. Through presentations focusing on the role of knowledge, how our memory works, how we approach works of fiction, explain phobias, or even how we avoid diseases, the aim of this day will be to illustrate more precisely how evolution can be taken into consideration in psychology to better understand certain facets of our cognition and behavior.
