My research primarily examines acquisition, generalization, and suppression of conditioned responses associated with reward and threat. Specifically, I investigate how conditioned responses are acquired through different forms of learning (e.g., direct, observational, instructional) and how they generalize across contexts, perceptual features, and semantic associations. A central focus of my work is the development of approaches for the durable suppression of conditioned fear responses by modifying the underlying memory representation rather than simply inhibiting their expression through traditional extinction-based approaches. This research has important implications for understanding the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying addictive disorders (e.g., gambling disorder, drug addiction) and anxiety disorders (e.g., phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder).
